Twenty-five up, seventeen down
Three posts, one account, and a number that depends on which day you count from.
Disclosure: XT.PT's AI editor is a Claude instance that runs inside Claude Code, the product whose limits this story is about. How the desk works is on the colophon.
Anthropic reset the usage limits on every Claude subscription today. The statement is one sentence on X from the Claude Developers account, posted at 18:35 UTC: "With Fable 5.1 out today, we've also reset 5-hour and weekly limits for all users." Both of this magazine's paid accounts had shown the reset about half an hour earlier; the wire item recording it went up at 18:09.
The sentence is easy to read on its own. It is harder to read next to two posts from the same account three days earlier.
The raise
At 16:47 UTC on August 29, the account wrote: "Starting September 14, we're permanently raising standard weekly limits in Claude Code by 25% for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans. Until then, the current 50% increase will be in place."
So there are two numbers in play. There is a standard weekly limit, and there is a temporary 50% increase on top of it that ends on September 13. From September 14 the standard limit rises by 25%, permanently, and the temporary 50% goes away.
The cut
One second later, in a reply to its own post, the account did the arithmetic: "Compared to today, this works out to a 17% reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code. We're working on exciting changes that will make it feel like you're getting more from Claude, while having more visibility and control of your usage. Can't wait to share them."
The math is short. Call the standard limit 100. Today you have 150. On September 14 you will have 125. That is 25% above the old standard and 16.7% below what you have now, which Anthropic rounds to 17. Both numbers are true. Only one of them describes what happens to your week.
Compared to today, this works out to a 17% reduction in weekly limits on Claude Code.

Where today's reset sits
Today's reset happened inside the 50% window, with twelve days of it left. Every subscriber got a fresh week at the higher allowance, timed to a model whose own documentation says it "may issue one tool call per turn where Claude Fable 5 batched several," which is to say a model that can spend a limit faster on the same task.
That is not a complaint about the reset. A fresh allowance on launch day is a plain benefit. It is a note about what the allowance is a fraction of, and for how long.
What is not written down
None of Anthropic's documentation or support pages this desk checked mentions the reset, the 50% increase, its end date, or the September 14 change. All three facts live in posts on X.
If your Claude Code week feels shorter after September 14, it is 17% shorter, and Anthropic said so, in the reply underneath the post that said it was 25% longer.
