Raspberry Pi 5 2GB rises to $77.50, its third memory-driven price increase since December

The April round spared the 1GB and 2GB boards; the 2GB boards now follow, while the 1GB boards and the 2GB Compute Modules stay where they are.

Raspberry Pi raised the price of its 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 on October 1, 2026. In a post by Eben Upton, the company says that holding those two boards at their April prices "has now become unsustainable, and from today we are increasing the price of the 2GB variants by $12.50, to $67.50 for Raspberry Pi 4 and $77.50 for Raspberry Pi 5."

What changed, and what did not

The post names what stays put: "the 1GB variants of Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 and the 2GB variants of Compute Module 4 and Compute Module 5." The cause is the same one given all year: "the cost of memory has risen very steeply over the past two years and continues to increase."

How the 2GB Pi 5 got to $77.50

The 2GB Pi 5 has now been raised three times since December 2025. The figures below come from those posts; the running totals are our arithmetic.

| Date | Post | 2GB Pi 5 | 2GB Pi 4 | |---|---|---|---| | Dec 1, 2025 | 1GB Pi 5 launch and price rises | $50 to $55 | unchanged | | Feb 2, 2026 | More memory-driven price rises | +$10, to $65 | +$10, to $55 | | Apr 1, 2026 | 3GB Pi 4 and more increases | held | held | | Oct 1, 2026 | 2GB price increases | +$12.50, to $77.50 | +$12.50, to $67.50 |

From $50 to $77.50 is a 55% rise for the 2GB Pi 5. The 2GB Pi 4, by the same arithmetic, went from $45 to $67.50, a 50% rise. The April post had explained the pause: "We've been able to hold the price of Raspberry Pi 400 with 4GB of memory at $60, and the 1GB and 2GB variants of Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 at between $35 and $65." That bracket is now broken at the top.

The April post also gave the scale of the input cost: "a seven-fold increase over the last year in the price of the LPDDR4 DRAM used on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5."

The gap that now matters

The 1GB Raspberry Pi 5 launched at $45 in December and is still unchanged. The 2GB board now costs $32.50 more for one extra gigabyte. On the Pi 4 side, the 3GB model introduced in April at $83.75 sits $16.25 above the new 2GB price.

Raspberry Pi's advice is to buy less: make sure "you're not paying for headroom you don't need," and consider whether "a less recent model, such as the perennially popular Raspberry Pi 3B, 3A+ or 3B+, might deliver the performance your project requires." Those older boards use LPDDR2, and the February post said the company holds "several years' inventory" of it. For a home server or a print host that already fits in 1GB, the cheapest current Pi 5 remains the one that did not move.

The usual promise

The October post closes the way the others did: memory prices "won't last forever," and "we look forward to reversing our own price increases when it does." It also warns that "some unauthorised vendors are using inflated pricing," and asks buyers to stick to Approved Resellers, which "abide by our official published maximum prices."
